    Description

1916 Doubled Die Obverse Nickel, VG8
    Ample Design Detail
    Key to the Series

1916 5C Doubled Die Obverse VG8 NGC. FS-101. Broad die doubling on the 6 in the date (and other nearby design elements, such as the feather tips) is obvious despite 62 points of wear. The 1916 DDO is more challenging than the 1918/7-D nickel, and is the key to a Guide Book collection of the series. Light gray surfaces are accented by deep olive-brown patination in the protected areas. Ample detail is still evident on some of the design elements despite relatively heavy wear. The rims are nearly complete, especially on the reverse. Census: 4 in 8, 86 finer (8/13).
