Description

1917-S Nickel, MS66+
The Finest at PCGS

1917-S 5C MS66+ PCGS. CAC. According to David W. Lange (2006), "a relatively small number of [1917-S] coins may be found that are extremely well struck." He explains that such examples were from dies that "were simply unworn and closely set within the press, the ideal situation for any coining operation but one that was seldom maintained with respect to Buffalo nickels." This Premium Gem features sharp definition on the Indian's hair braid and the bison's head and tail. Each side offers gorgeous, frosted luster and pale shades of rose, lilac, peach, and sea-green toning. A few small clash marks and die cracks appear throughout. PCGS has certified 25 coins in MS66 but this is the only MS66+ representative with none finer (7/14).(Registry values: N2998)
