    Description

    Choice AU 1918/7-D Nickel
    Beautiful Color and Luster

1918/7-D 5C AU55 PCGS. FS-101. The 1918/7-D Buffalo nickel actually has much in common with the 1917 Doubled Die Lincoln. Both are the product of hubbing errors that affected a single obverse die, and both were produced in the crush for small change during World War I, which stimulated demand. The difference in the two issues is that, where the 1918/7-D nickel obverse die was produced by blows from two differently dated hubs, the 1917 Doubled Die Lincoln cent was produced by a slight rotation of the hub between successive strikings of the die. Besides the overdated nickel and the Doubled Die Obverse Lincoln cent, there are numerous other Cherrypickers' Buffalo nickel varieties from 1917 and 1918 that are listed in that reference but not yet in the Guide Book.

This Choice AU 1918/7-D overdate nickel offers most of the benefits of a fully Mint State example, including substantial luster, beautiful color, and a paucity of abrasions. Pinkish-gold prevails on the reflective surfaces, contrasting with glints of ice-blue. An extremely attractive example.(Registry values: N4719) (NGC ID# 22RJ, PCGS# 3939)
