Description

1918/7-D Buffalo Nickel, AU58
Important
Guide Book Variety

1918/7-D 5C FS-101 AU58 PCGS. The overdate was produced with a die mated to two different hubs when it was manufactured at the Philadelphia Mint. This die struck an unknown number of nickels, and the 1918/7-D coin is generally collectible today, albeit for a price. This is one of the keys to the Guide Book set, and it is one of the three major Guide Book varieties. We have seen examples from early die states all the way down to heavily eroded and flow-lined die states. The current piece is from an intermediate die state. There is some metal flow in the margins, and the thin die crack runs through the Indian's jaw, but the die deterioration is not nearly as severe as seen on many other examples. The coin shows typical strike softness in the centers and on the upper Indian's feather. Warm golden toning paints the satiny mint luster. Barely a trace of actual wear is apparent.
