1918/7-D Buffalo Nickel, MS63
Advanced Die State

1918/7-D 5C FS-101 MS63 NGC. The Buffalo nickel series has its share of condition rarities, and some dates are quite pricey even in low circulated grades. But the series as a whole is thoroughly collectible with no major stoppers in the standard date and mintmark set. However, for a complete Guide Book set, the major varieties are needed, and this is where the Buffalo nickel series becomes difficult to complete. The rarest issue is the 1916 Doubled Die, seldom seen in any grade. The second rarest is the 1918/7-D.

The overdate was created when a working die was pressed by hubs of two different dates. The die was then entered with the D mintmark and shipped to Denver for coinage. This Select Mint State example displays original golden-russet toning with minimal abrasions for the grade. The diagnostic die crack across the Indian chief's jaw is long and prominent on this piece.
