    Description

    Rare Mint State 1918/7-D Nickel

1918/7-D MS 62 PCGS. More than sixty years after its discovery, the overdate remains a scarce and very desirable Buffalo nickel variety. Nickels (and cents) were in short supply during the First World War and were being produced at an unprecedented rate, thus creating a high demand for working dies. The overdate feature was created after a new die had already been given an impression from a 1917 hub, was annealed, and was given a second impression (either inadvertently or intentionally) from a 1918 hub. Scarce in all grades, mint state overdates are extreme rarities.Essentially untoned, the mint luster is somewhat subdued, accounting for the grade, with very few abrasions on either side. One of just fifteen total pieces assigned mint state grades by PCGS (5/97), and sure to enjoy spirited bidding.
