Description
Select MS 63 Overdate Nickel--An Important 20th Century Rarity
1918/7-D MS 63 PCGS. An exciting example of this very scarce and highly sought-out overdate in the Buffalo nickel series. Scarce in all grades, the overdate is very rare in all conditions of Mint State. Only two gems have been certified, placing this piece in the middle of the Condition Census with several others. The surfaces have a subdued, satin-like texture. The fields display a bright rose-golden patina and the gray-lilac patina on the devices provides a strong contrast. Softly struck on the highpoints, the most noticeable areas are on the hair curls on the obverse and the matted hair on the bison's head. Of the greatest rarity and importance to collectors of this popular series. Population: 5 in 63, 11 finer (6/99). From the Louis S. Joseph Collection.Coin Index Numbers: (PCGS# 3939, Greysheet# 3115)
Weight: 5.00 grams
Metal: 75% Copper, 25% Nickel
