Description

Outstanding 1918-D Buffalo Nickel, MS65

1918-D 5C MS65 NGC. The Guide Book of Buffalo and Jefferson Nickels succinctly summarizes this issue: "Although the 1918-D is common in lower grades, in gem Mint State (MS-65 or higher) and with a decent strike, it is a rarity." Despite a little softness on the Indian, this piece is certainly above-average in terms of sharpness, and its strong satiny luster adds to the appeal. The surfaces appear pristine to the unaided eye, and only a few minor handling marks are visible under a glass. NGC has certified just six examples finer (8/08).(Registry values: N2998)
