Description

Well Struck 1918-D Gem Five Cent

1918-D 5C MS65 NGC. In his Buffalo nickel reference book (2006), David Lange writes that "Mint State coins are available with the characteristic weakness of strike. Choice and Gem pieces are rare." Iridescent rainbow toning adorns the well preserved, lustrous surfaces of the Gem example in this lot. A well executed strike leaves better-than-average definition on the design features, including sharpness on the horn and tail. Census: 22 in 65, 6 finer (8/07).(Registry values: N2998)
