Description

One of the Finest Known and Magnificent 1919-D Buffalo Nickels

1919-D 5C MS66 PCGS. This coin is absolutely stunning, as the strike and quality of this piece are far and away finer than virtually the entire mintage of this date. Note the peripheral and internal lettering and devices, rarely are LIBERTY and UNITED STATES OF AMERICA found with such complete and undrawn definition clear to their tops, and the bison with wooly mounds of fur so completely defined. Combine this superb early strike from the dies with magnificent quality, and you have a coin that simply can't be beat. Examine the fields and devices, rarely are common dates found with so few signs of handling, and this is a 1919-D. The color is typical, with a blush of yellow-gold intermixed with nickel-blue and matte gray on the obverse and reverse. Any serious specialist to the Buffalo nickel series would do well to obtain this coin and not miss this opportunity. This particular coin is identifiable by a minute attached planchet flake above the N in CENTS. The combined NGC and PCGS population reports note 15 coins have been graded this fine, with none seen higher of this date and mint.(#3942) (Registry values: N4719)
