    1919-D Five Cent, Exceptional MS66
    Among the Finest Certified
    Sharply Struck

1919-D 5C MS66 PCGS. The 1919-D five cent Buffalo is one of the more challenging coins to locate, both in terms of availability in the better Mint State grades and from a strike perspective. PCGS and NGC combined have seen fewer than 20 coins in Premium Gem and none finer. Lange writes that strike weakness is evenly distributed, with particular indistinctness in the bison's head and the all-important horn.

The present MS66 example is a refreshing exception to the poor strike characteristics of most 1919-D nickels. The braid is well defined and the date and LIBERTY are bold. The bison's horn and tail are virtually full. Minor softness is noted in the hair above the forehead, but there is distinct separation between the two. Both sides display soft reddish-gold patina and pleasing luster, and each has been well cared for. Population: 16 in 66, 0 finer (4/13).(Registry values: N4719) (NGC ID# 22RM, PCGS# 3942)

    Weight: 5.00 grams

    Metal: 75% Copper, 25% Nickel
