Description

Sharply Struck 1920-D Nickel, MS65+
With Splendid Toning

1920-D 5C MS65+ PCGS. CAC. The 1920-D Buffalo nickel issue is one known for both middling luster and a generally inadequate strike, and this coin is the exception on both counts. Intense luster wafts from both sides, the likely reason for the Plus grade. The strike, while not full, is much better than normal for the issue, with pleasing shaggy detail on the buffalo's hide (but little evidence of a split tail). The obverse is crisply struck as well, while short of completely. A small die crack crosses the high point of the Indian's cheek. The splendid variegated color palette comprises gold, olive, ice-blue, and lilac in pleasing proportions. A Registry Set prize; PCGS has graded this single coin in 65+, with two pieces finer (3/11).(Registry values: N2998)
