Description
Subtly Toned 1921-S Buffalo Nickel, MS64
1921-S 5C MS64 PCGS. The 1921-S is one of the great strike rarities as well as absolute rarities in the Buffalo nickel series. This piece lacks the planchet flaws, die cracks, and grease stains often seen on this issue, the only Mint-made flaw being occasional heavy metal flow in the reverse field. The obverse striking details are complete, but the reverse is less so, with some softness noted on the bison's head as well as the tail. The surfaces are bright and highly lustrous, and each side is toned in attractive, multicolored "oil slick" shades. From The Joseph C. Thomas Collection, Part Two.(Registry values: N2998)
