Description

1923 Buffalo Nickel, MS67+
Important CAC Registry Coin

1923 5C MS67+ PCGS. CAC. Aside from major varieties such as the 1918/7-D and 1916 Doubled Die Obverse, all Buffalo nickel issues can be obtained with ease in many grades. Where some dates become challenging is in the upper reaches of Mint State. Out of a mintage of more than 35 million coins, this 1923 Buffalo is one of just a few dozen coins that has achieved Superb Gem classification. Moreover, it is one of only two PCGS-certified pieces in MS67 with a Plus designation, and it is one of the five finest coins endorsed by CAC. PCGS and NGC each report only a single higher-grade example (1/20). This coin is luminous and frosty, showing the faintest golden toning over virtually flawless surfaces. Moderate die erosion in the fields and trivial strike softness at the centers are characteristic of the issue. Population: 29 in 67 (2 in 67+), 1 finer. CAC: 5 in 67, 0 finer (1/20).(Registry values: N2998)
