Description

Lightly Toned 1923-S Gem Five Cent

1923-S 5C MS65 PCGS. CAC. David Lange notes in The Complete Guide to Buffalo Nickels that despite its relatively small mintage (6.142 million pieces), the 1923-S nickel is available in all grades short of Gem. PCGS and NGC have graded forty or so MS65 coins, and fewer than five finer. This Gem specimen displays light golden-gray color resting upon lustrous surfaces. The design elements are better struck than usually seen on the issue, though minor softness in seen in portions of the hair on the bison's head. Significant marks are absent. Population: 31 in 65, 2 finer (10/08).
