Description

1924-D Nickel, Toned MS65
Seldom Offered in Gem or Finer Grades

1924-D 5C MS65 NGC. The Connecticut State Library hoard of 1924-D nickels is responsible for most of the high-grade Uncirculated examples known. NGC, in particular, has certified only a few Gem or finer coins. This sharply struck Gem lacks full definition only on the bison's shoulder and the lowest hair strands above the braid knot. The surfaces are essentially mark-free and toned a regal steel-gray color with gold and ice-blue accents across the satin-smooth fields and motifs. Housed in a third generation, pre-hologram NGC holder. Census: 20 in 65 (1 in 65+), 1 finer (4/19).(Registry values: N2998)

Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 22RY, PCGS# 3952, Greysheet# 3124)

Weight: 5.00 grams

Metal: 75% Copper, 25% Nickel
