Description

Challenging 1924-D Gem Five Cent

1924-D 5C MS65 PCGS. The scarce 1924-D is among the least available of the D-mint nickels (David Lange, 2006). Soft violet patina with sun-gold accents dominates the obverse of this Gem, ceding to sun-gold over the reverse. Lustrous surfaces exhibit well struck design elements, except for weakness at the bison's forehead, which according to Lange is typical for the issue. An occasional flyspeck is noted over each side. Housed in a green-label holder. Population: 89 in 65, 1 finer (5/08).
