Description
1924-D Buffalo Nickel, MS66
Rare, Among the Finest Known
1924-D 5C MS66 PCGS. The 1924-D Buffalo nickel draws a
modest premium in the upper circulated grades, but its availability
does not begin to significantly drop until the Gem level, where it
is scarce; in MS66, this Denver issue is a major condition rarity
in the series, and finer examples are unknown. This piece is one of
only nine Premium Gems at PCGS, and NGC contributes only a single
other example in this grade (11/18).This unsurpassed representative shows surprisingly little evidence of die erosion for a branch mint issue from this period, although the hair above the Indian's braid and the bison's shoulder and head exhibit predictable strike softness. The surfaces are delicately preserved and display just a hint of light golden toning. The peripheral legends and mintmark are bold.
