    Exceptional 1925-D Five Cent, MS66

1925-D 5C MS66 NGC. The 1925-D Buffalo nickel has the reputation of being a challenging coin that is difficult to locate in well struck condition. David Lange, in his Complete Guide to Buffalo Nickels treatise, writes: "Well struck examples may be found but are rare in all grades. Even Mint State coins may show little or no sign of the bison's horn, while very few have complete horns. Some 1925-D nickels are known with the E in FIVE filled, and all are characteristically weak in the first two numerals of the date."
The Premium Gem we present in this lot does not suffer from the foregoing maladies. The horn is bold and pointed, and the date and all of the lettering are sharp. The only softness we discern occurs on portions of the hair on the heads of the Indian and Bison, but these are minor. Highly lustrous, well preserved surfaces appear untoned to the naked eye, but magnification reveals whispers of pastel iridescent sky-blue, gold, rose, and light green. A truly exceptional '25-D! Census: 7 in 66, 0 finer (6/07).(Registry values: N4719)
