    Description

    1925-S Buffalo Nickel, MS65
    Unusual Sharp Strike

1925-S 5C MS65 NGC. In A Guide Book of Buffalo and Jefferson Nickels, Dave Bowers describes the 1925-S Buffalo nickel by the single word "complex." Certified coins are only described by a single grading number, such as MS65 in this case, but there is so much more involved when selecting an example of this issue. The major factor is strike. About one quarter of all known examples are poorly struck, and another 25% are sharply struck, with the balance of known pieces between those two extremes.
This piece, while clearly not a full strike, is best described as a sharply defined example, in the top 25% of survivors. Both sides exhibit satiny light gray and gold surfaces with brilliant luster and splashes of delicate blue toning. Census: 21 in 65, 2 finer (11/11).(Registry values: N7079) (NGC ID# 22S4, PCGS# 3956)

    Weight: 5.00 grams

    Metal: 75% Copper, 25% Nickel
