Description
Exceptional 1926-S Five Cent, AU58
1926-S 5C AU58 NGC. The 1926-S has the lowest mintage of any regular issue in the Buffalo nickel series (970,000 pieces). The strike is typically weak; indeed, David Bowers (2007) says that no fully detailed coins have been reported. This near-Mint State example, despite some localized softness on the bison's fur, probably exhibits better definition than often seen. Moreover, the remarkably clean surfaces retain considerable luster and display blushes of gold, violet, and reddish-orange. This piece generates nice overall eye appeal for a coin that has seen brief circulation.(Registry values: N1793)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 22S7, PCGS# 3959, GSID# 3129)
