Satiny Near-Gem 1927-S Buffalo Nickel
1927-S 5C MS64 PCGS. A satiny near-Gem example, exhibiting pale gray-gold color with lilac and iridescent toning on both sides. Dave Bowers described the MS64 grade as the "Optimal Collecting Grade" for the '27-S. A trademark of Whitman Publishing Company, the Optimal Collecting Grade for each issue provides an indication of the best value, after considering several factors. We hope that future editions of A Guide Book of Buffalo and Jefferson Nickels will actually inform the readers of the various factors that are considered.(Registry values: N2998)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 22SA, PCGS# 3962, GSID# 3131)
