1927-S Nickel, MS65, Tied for Finest Certified

1927-S 5C MS65 PCGS. CAC. The 1927-S Buffalo nickel presents quite the conundrum for collectors; despite the mintage exceeding 3.4 million coins, it is elusive in Mint State grades, especially Gem, where it becomes a condition rarity. Even the most ambitious PCGS Registry Set collector is limited to one of the 20 Gems known to that service, as of (7/10). The strike on this piece is exceptional, and both sides show light and attractive olive-gold patina with glints of teal and lilac. The toning has settled over intriguing luster, half shining, half quicksilver, entirely pleasing.(Registry values: N4719)
