    1930-S Nickel, Marvelous MS67
    Low-Mintage Depression-Era Issue

1930-S 5C MS67 PCGS. The 1930-S nickel was largely withheld from release at the time of its manufacture, because little demand existed for new coinage struck during the Great Depression. Placed into storage, the nickels were still on hand in 1934 when the economy showed signs of recovery. Upon release, the low-mintage coins (5.4 million pieces) were hoarded by speculators and dealers, making the issue more available than its mintage suggests. Today, even full Gems are readily available, yet higher-grade coins are scarce to rare.

This marvelous Superb Gem displays a rich-lilac sheen over nickel-gold surfaces -- well-balanced front-to-back -- while the strike is measurably stronger than usually seen for the issue. Both sides display glowing mint luster and impeccable preservation with outstanding eye appeal. The coin is an excellent fit for the finest Buffalo nickel or type collection. Population: 4 in 67, 0 finer (6/12).
