1937-D Three-Legged Buffalo Nickel, MS61
FS-901, In-Demand Guide Book Variety

1937-D 5C Three-Legged, FS-901, MS61 NGC. An over-zealous Denver Mint employee removed nearly the entire right front leg of the bison on this famous 1937-D variety, which rivals the 1955 doubled die Lincoln cent for honors as the most-sought Mint error prior to 1960. Many examples exist including the ultra-desirable Mint State coins with the leg fully missing. This MS61 example displays slightly grainy but attractive golden luster and remarkably few abrasions for the grade. Struck from overused dies, surprising definition remains intact except, of course, for the bison's right foreleg.
