Description

1937-D Three-Legged Buffalo Nickel
CAC-Endorsed MS64

1937-D 5C Three-Legged, FS-901, MS64 PCGS. CAC. This famous Guide Book variety can be considered a die state error. Aggressive die polishing on the reverse effaced the bison's forward right leg. This die pair was already heavily eroded at the time of the variety's creation, and the fields continued to produce metal flow and stress lines throughout its usage. The present coin exhibits unusually strong definition despite this, and soft, satiny luster yields few abrasions. Rich golden toning warms each side.
Ex: Dallas Signature (Heritage, 4/2007), lot 467.
