1938-D/S Nickel, CAC-Approved MS67+
FS-512 Overmintmark Variety
1938-D/S 5C FS-512 MS67+ PCGS. CAC. The Cherrypickers'
Guide and PCGS recognize five different overmintmark varieties
of the 1938-D nickel. FS-512 shows the curve of an S within the D,
but the D is not repunched as it is on the FS-511 variety. This
high-end Superb Gem displays delicate lilac and champagne-blue hues
across satiny, unabraded mint luster. Just a touch of strike
softness is evident in the centers, with most of the design being
well brought up. PCGS has Plus-graded 40 D/S nickels in MS67 (all
varieties included), with a lone MS68 coin finer. CAC: 51 in 67, 0
finer (8/19).Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 22T3, Variety PCGS# 569456, Base PCGS# 3984, Greysheet# 199182)
