Description

1938-D/S 5C MS67+ PCGS. FS-511. The 1938-D nickels saw an impressive mintage at a little over 7 million pieces, though Bowers estimates that just 400,000 examples displayed the D over S mintmark. Toning is prominent on this example with bright yellows, copper-reds, and blues enveloping the entirety of the original coin. This impressive Superb Gem coin is at the penultimate of its issue at MS67+, as just 11 coins have been seen finer by PCGS (3/26).
