    Description

1913 Type Two Buffalo Nickel, PR68
    Among the Finest Certified

1913 5C Type Two PR68 NGC. When the Buffalo nickel debuted in 1913 it featured the denomination FIVE CENTS on an elevated earth mound beneath the bison, where it was discovered that it quickly wore off in circulation, unprotected by the rim. The design was modified later that year to recess the denomination below the lip of the rim. Today, both the Type One and Type Two 1913 Buffalo nickels are popular type coins.

The Type Two proof is usually seen in PR65 and PR66, but occasionally PR64 and PR67 coins appear at auction. The issue is a major rarity in PR68, and none are known finer (5/21). This top-grade coin displays razor-sharp definition and rich matte luster. Delicate iridescent toning graces the virtually flawless surfaces. Census: 7 in 68 (1 in 68+), 0 finer (5/21).(Registry values: N4719)
