1938-D/S Buffalo Nickel, MS67+
Popular
Guide Book Variety

1938-D/S 5C FS-511 MS67+ PCGS Secure. CAC. This is among the finest examples of the variety reported at PCGS (5/18). The underlying S is plainly visible within and above the primary D mintmark. Working dies were prepared at the Philadelphia Mint and then shipped to the branch mints as needed. This variety occurred when a reverse die destined for San Francisco was repunched with the D mintmark and shipped to Denver instead. Satiny luster on this piece shows delicate rose-gold toning and well-struck design elements. The Plus designation and CAC green label combination add to the eye appeal.
