    1809 Dime, JR-1, Lustrous XF40
    First-Year Capped Bust Issue

1809 10C JR-1, R.4, XF40 PCGS. The 1809 dime, first of the Capped Bust type, is a single-variety year, despite the reported mintage of 51,000-plus coins (including deliveries in 1810, but no 1810-dated dimes are known). It is considered very scarce, with perhaps 200 surviving in all grades. This nice XF example, certified in a PCGS green-label holder, shows light rose-gray and copper-gold surfaces that still show some remaining luster. The filled A1 and A2 on the reverse, and a die crack connecting the right side of E1, may peg this piece as belonging to one of the later 1810 deliveries. For the date, Population: 10 in 40, 32 finer (7/15).
