    Description

Scarce and Desirable Mint State 1811/9 Dime

1811/9 MS 62 PCGS. JR-1, the only die of the year, R.3. The only known 1809 obverse die was modified by partially effacing the final two digits in the date and overpunching them with two 1s. It was then married with the only known '09 reverse die, producing the scarce 1811/09 dime. This is a later state of the dies with multiple die cracks evident on the reverse. The surfaces are unquestionably original with ever deepening shades of medium-brown to deep charcoal-gray toward the rims. The luster is complete, but a bit dull, thus keeping the coin from a higher grade. The striking details are uncommonly bold for a coin struck from a screw press, and the only mark of any consequence is a horizontal abrasion beneath the ear of Liberty. Population: 4 in 62, only 3 finer. (NGC ID# 236V, PCGS# 4487)

    Weight: 2.70 grams

    Metal: 89.24% Silver, 10.76% Copper
