    Description

Fantastic Gem 1811/09 Capped Bust Dime

1811/09 MS 65 NGC. JR-1, R.3. The only known 1809 obverse die was modified by partially effacing the final two digits in the date and overpunching them with two 1s. It was then married with the only known '09 reverse die, producing the scarce 1811/09 dime. This amazing gem specimen is easily among the finest pieces extant. A modest die bulge above the portrait, along with the diagnostic die cracks on the reverse, may be indicative of a fairly late die state. The surfaces exhibit vibrant mint luster and are toned in golden-brown and greenish-gray hues that are most pleasing to the eye. Population: 5 in 65, 1 finer (10/98). (NGC ID# 236V, PCGS# 4487)

    Weight: 2.70 grams

    Metal: 89.24% Silver, 10.76% Copper
