1814 JR-2 Late Die State with Extensive Reverse Die Sinking

1814 10C Large Date JR-2, R-3. Reiver state b.--Damaged--NCS. VF Details. The source of the damage seems to be unusual streaky toning but this does not appear to have etched or damaged the surfaces significantly. As usual for this die pairing, the strike is sharp on the central devices, but this is a very late die state for the reverse which has extensive die sinking through ERIC, so much so that the obverse star ten and eleven are quite weak. A similar area of die sinking is found at the tip of the left wing of the eagle and the olive leaves below. The reverse die was discarded after coining this variety, and the obverse went on to coin the JR-3 issue. Identifiable by a small nick on star eight.
