    Description

    1814 Capped Bust Dime, MS65
    Large Date, JR-4

1814 10C Large Date, JR-4, R.2, MS65 PCGS. The 1814 Capped Bust dime claims a substantial mintage of 421,500 pieces, with five die varieties known for the date. This coin represents the JR-4 variety, with the second 1 in the date positioned left of the lowest curl and no period after C in the denomination. The JR-4 is an available issue in absolute terms, but high-grade specimens are elusive. The present coin is a spectacular Gem representative, with well-detailed design elements and lustrous surfaces that show interesting clash marks on both sides. From a late state of the dies, an extensive network of die cracks is evident on the reverse and the dentilation is weak in many areas. A few hints of lavender and pale gold toning add to the outstanding eye appeal. Population: 6 in 65 (1 in 65+), 3 finer (7/17). (Variety PCGS# 38776, Base PCGS# 4488)

    Weight: 2.70 grams

    Metal: 89.24% Silver, 10.76% Copper
