    Description

Scarce 1814 Small Date Dime, MS64 PCGS

1814 10C Small Date MS64 PCGS. JR-1, R.3. This is a scarce variety that is generally offered in grades no finer than VF. Writing in 1984, the John Reich Collectors Society estimated that no more than six Mint State examples of JR-1 are extant. Indeed, PCGS has certified just six Uncirculated specimens, and NGC has seen eleven such coins (6/05). This is an original near-Gem with rich, charcoal-copper toning and mottled golden-blue highlights. Well centered, the strike is also sufficiently bold over the central devices; some of the star centrils, however, are weak. The surfaces are moderately bright beneath the toning with no singularly mentionable abrasions. Population: 2 in 64, 1 finer (6/05).
