Description

1820 Small 0, JR-2 Dime, MS67
Beautifully Toned, Among Finest

1820 10C Small 0, JR-2, R.3, MS67 PCGS. A gorgeous Superb Gem featuring rich aquamarine, russet-brown, and lavender peripheral toning. The centers are close to brilliant. Sharply struck and essentially immaculate. JR-2 is sometimes called the "Office Boy" variety due to the amateur entering of the reverse legend, most notably a repunched O in OF and a too-high second T in STATES. We have searched the Heritage auction archives and found only two prior appearances of MS67 JR-2 examples, one from the Oliver Jung Collection in our August 2014 Chicago ANA Signature, and the other from Part IV of the Gene Gardner Collection sold in October 2015. In addition, PCGS Coin Facts depicts a nearly brilliant MS67 example. NGC has not certified any 1820 dimes as JR-2 above MS66 (3/26).
