    Description

Conditionally Rare 1821 Small Date, JR-9 Dime in MS64

1821 10C Small Date MS64 NGC. JR-9, R.2. Among die marriages of the 1821 Capped Bust Dime, JR-9 is fairly common. Survivors, however, are not as plentiful as those of the JR-8 variety, and they are seldom encountered in Mint State. Satiny in sheen, the present example reveals modest hints of brightness in the fields. Whispers of golden iridescence are seen at a few angles, but the outward appearance is one of silver-gray color. With razor sharp striking detail and surfaces that are free of singularly mentionable blemishes, this coin would fit nicely into a Choice quality type set. Clashmarks (as struck) are noted in the reverse field, particularly around the eagle's head. NGC and PCGS combined report only four 1821 Small Date Dimes in MS64, with a mere two finer (7/02). (NGC ID# 236Y, PCGS# 94496)

    Weight: 2.70 grams
