    Description

1823/2 10C Large E's, JR-3, R.2, AU58 PCGS. CAC. A pair of 1822 obverse dies (leftover from the small 1822 mintage) were repunched at the date for 1823. Two reverse dies -- one with abnormally large Es -- were paired with the obverses. This JR-3 example is a bit of rub away from full Mint State. The dove-gray portrait is framed by a sun-gold and rose-red obverse border. The reverse displays a gunmetal eagle, a navy-blue field, and a golden-brown periphery. The surfaces are glossy but unabraded save for faint obverse hairlines and a small area of mint-made granularity above the 82 in the date.
