    Description

    1823/2 Capped Bust Dime, MS64
    JR-1, Small Es Variety
    Vivid Toning Accents

1823/2 10C Small Es MS64 NGC. JR-1, R.3. Three varieties of 1823 Dimes are known, and all are from overdated 1822 obverse dies. This is the easily identified Small Es variety, now a listed Guide Book variety (as is the Large Es type). Rose, neon-blue, and a touch of forest-green colors illuminate this sharply struck Bust Dime. The lustrous fields are surprisingly unmarked, and only a wispy vertical abrasion on the portrait and some mint-made roughness on the chin preclude a higher grade. The obverse fields display considerable prooflike flash. Census: 20 in 64 (1 in 64+), 11 finer (1/14).
From the collection of Donald E. Bently, sold for the benefit of the Bently Foundation.(Registry values: N2998) (NGC ID# 2372, PCGS# 4498)

    Weight: 2.70 grams

    Metal: 89.24% Silver, 10.76% Copper
