    Description

    Rare 1827 JR-9 Dime

1827 10C JR-9, R.5 Reiver state a.--Obverse Improperly Cleaned--NCS. AU Details. Boldly struck as nearly always seen for this die pairing with sharp details on Liberty's curls. The engraving on the obverse die was done with a heavy hand, thus the stars are cut deeply into the die, and as such are seldom found with their radial centers on the left side. Even the dentils are thickly engraved and helped protect the coin during circulation. Excellent surfaces save for moderate directional hairlines caused by the cleaning. Now a bit dull, the silver color predominates with some peripheral gold particularly on the reverse and some speckled gray too on that side. Close to or within the Condition Census for the variety, and an important offering for the variety specialist.
