Description

1827 JR-3 Dime, MS65
Condition Census Quality

1827 10C Pointed Top 1, JR-3, R.1, MS65 PCGS. JR-3 is typically attributed by crumbling on the obverse dentils near 8:30 and 12 o'clock, and an oversized dentil on the reverse near 7:30. The present Gem is the finest example of JR-3 to appear in a Heritage auction in a PCGS holder, and it is a richly toned specimen bathed in concentric bands of sea-green, rose-red, and sun-gold. The strike is sharp except on the vertical shield lines, which are invariably fused into solid stripes on JR-3. A small rod-shaped strike-through between the UN in UNITED provides an identifier, but post-strike imperfections are inconsequential.
