    Description

Prooflike MS 64 1827 Dime--One of the Finest Known of the Variety

1827 MS 64 NGC. JR-12, R.1. An exceptional, near-gem example of this common variety. What makes this coin special is not only the high grade, but also the highly reflective fields seen on each side. According to the JR reference on early dimes, two proofs are known from this die pairing, one of which is in the Eliasberg Collection. This coin may not have been struck as a proof, but it was certainly struck soon after the short run of proofs were produced from these dies. The coin is richly toned in variegated deep blue and gray-rose patina with a wide crescent of pale gray at the top of the reverse. Well defined in the centers and showing no obvious or distracting blemishes on either side. Undoubtedly one of the finest known of the variety. (NGC ID# 2375, PCGS# 4504)
