    Description

Originally Preserved 1828 Large Size Capped Bust Dime

1828 10C Large Size MS 64 NGC. Ex: Pittman. JR-2, R.3. With the exception of star 13 and the eagle's head, every feature of this original example displays pinpoint striking definition. Rich lavender-gray toning is noted throughout, but the surfaces are silent on the subject of distracting bagmarks. The Philadelphia Mint produced 125,000 Capped Bust dimes in 1828; those of the Large Size variety are scarcer and more desirable than their Small Size counterparts.
Ex: James Kelly Auction (11/2/57), lot 812, where it realized $35; John Jay Pittman Collection (Akers, 10/97), lot 560, where it realized $2,860.
    From the Bob Bisanz U.S. Type Set. (NGC ID# 2377, PCGS# 4506)
