Description
1829 Curl Base 2 Dime, JR-10, R.6, Good Details
1829 10C Curl Base 2, Small 10C--Bent, Improperly Cleaned, NCS. Good Details. JR-10, R.6. This is a rare variety which is only known in well-circulated grades. The JR reference (1984) states that the finest known is the Fine 15 discovery coin, and in the intervening years only the VF details example offered in the 2007 Charlotte ANA Auction appears to have exceeded that level. The curl base 2 obverse is unique to this die marriage, although the reverse would be reused in 1830 and is most easily identified by the low T in UNITED. The wear pattern on this coin is uneven, as might be expected of a bent coin, and the wear is as heavy as is implied by the grade; however, the date is nearly complete and LIBERTY, the right stars, and all of the outer reverse lettering are intact.
