Description
Lustrous MS64 JR-12 1829 Dime
1829 10C Medium 10C MS64 PCGS. JR-12, R.3. In addition to
the size of the date, this variety is most easily attributed by the
two pale gules on the reverse shield--a feature unique to this 1829
variety. The JR reference states that this scarce variety can be
found in VF20 or better condition and it mentions that "possibly
six pieces exist in MS-60 or better condition." The only finer
pieces we have offered at public auction are two MS66 coins and an
MS65. The surfaces are exceptionally lustrous and each side has a
light coating of gray-lilac toning. A bit softly struck in the
usual places for this variety: over the eye and ear and on the
eagle's head. (Registry values: N2998)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 2378, PCGS# 4511, GSID# 226505)
