    Description

1830 Capped Bust Dime, Sharp MS66
    JR-8, First Generation Holder

1830 10C Medium 10C, JR-8, R.3, MS66 PCGS. Not enough data exists in either the PCGS population report or in our own archives to confirm that this is the finest 1830 JR-8 dime, but we believe it is at least tied for the honor. Iridescent rainbow hues yield to powder-blue and light-rose toning over lustrous silver surfaces. The coin is sharply struck throughout both sides, with full definition at the eagle's talons and only brief blending of the curls below Liberty's ear, in an area where light die rust exists.

Soft mint luster glows beneath the attractive toning, while glimpses of surface reflectivity glimmer at the borders. A thin, meandering die crack wanders from the lower edge of the cap through Liberty's curls to the edge below star 13. This example is housed in a first generation "rattler" holder, long tucked away in our consignor's collection and a new candidate for anyone forming an advanced collection of Capped Bust dimes. Population (all varieties combined): 5 in 66, 2 finer (4/18).
