Description

1832 JR-7 Dime, MS66
Tied for Second Finest of the Variety

1832 10C JR-7, R.3, MS66 NGC. Bright and essentially untoned surfaces are loaded with satiny luster and overlay reflective fields. The details are boldly struck up with sharp delineation on the eagle's neck, Liberty's hair and the obverse stars. The JR-7 is a scarce variety, an attribute that is magnified in high grades, as noted by Davis et al. all the way back in 1984. The finest is the MS66+ PCGS Pogue example, and the Eliasberg example is tied with the present offering for second finest known. A single additional Gem, sold by Stack's Bowers twice in 2005, rounds out the population of Gem or finer examples of this die marriage that we were able to locate. For collectors who demand the best, the present offering is a standout opportunity.
