    Description

    1833 JR-6 Dime, Notable MS65
    Undesignated Prooflike Fields
    Sharp and Attractive

1833 10C JR-6, R.1, MS65 PCGS. The JR-6 shares an obverse with JR-8 and JR-9, paired with a distinct reverse that shows the left edge of the scroll aligned under the center of D in UNITED. This exceptional Gem is mostly brilliant, with flashy prooflike fields and razor-sharp definition on the relief elements. The sharp strike and mirrored fields are reminiscent of an early proof, and indeed references do cite an 1833 JR-6 proof, although we cannot differentiate this piece from a prooflike circulation strike with certainty. Blushes of rose-gold and forest-green toning color the margins for excellent eye appeal. Interesting machine doubling exists at date and on some of the right-hand stars. This is the finest JR-6 we have seen, and it likely ranks at the top of the Condition Census for the variety. PCGS has seen just three numerically finer 1833 dimes, regardless of variety. Population (all varieties): 15 in 65, 3 finer (5/19). (Variety PCGS# 38866, Base PCGS# 4522)
