    Description

1833 JR-9 Dime, MS65, Undoubtedly The Finest Known

1833 10C MS65 PCGS. JR-9, R.2. This variety is most easily attributable by star 13 which is close and presents two points to the curl, and TED in UNITED that is successively higher on the reverse. While fairly common in lower grades, the JR-9 is an important condition rarity. In the JR reference, published in 1984, the finest example known at that time was an AU55. Today this piece is surely the finest known, being a full ten points finer than that 1977 ANA coin. Sharply defined around the peripheries, the centers display just a bit of striking weakness. The surfaces are obviously original with light gray patina over most of each side and deeper rose colored peripheries. Each side is exceptionally clean and problem-free with no obvious surface distractions. (NGC ID# 237D, PCGS# 4522)
